Notes from the seeder: I am going to try another old concert for
upload...and I hope that if anyone knows something more definitive about this
one than I do, that they will continue to be "kind" in their comments.
This concert was sent to me as "Tullamore 2/3/80"...however, the
reference materials available to me indicate that there is some confusion as to
the exact details of date and venue...for example, one version of cover art
which might be applicable shows "U2 Tullamore Garden Of Remembrance 2nd
March '80"..and includes Out of Control as a 16th track....and U2Live shows
two possible sources for this concert, "February, 1980 Tullamoore, Bridge
House"...and a different listing for "February 1980, Tullermeny Garden
of Eden Club"...there also is a cover art version showing 14 tracks,
omitting this disc's track 7 "Another Day". The quality of this show is B or so...but at least it clearly
is lossless. One version of the
cover art shows Out of Control as being track 16, which to repeat, is not here,
and not listed in Pimm's set list. Possibly
the text from the abovereferenced cover art would be reliable: "This show
was in 'The Garden of Eden', Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland on Sun. 2nd March
1980. This gig in Tullamore have
never been logged correctly, so here it is.
U2 played Tullamore, Co. Offaly in the midlands of Ireland on Sun 2nd March
1980. This was one of the first
times U2 played outside of the big cities (Dublin, Cork, etc) and most of the
locals were down the pub or in 'The Bridge House' dancing to 'Big Tom'.
There were only about 20 people in the hall.
The hall was called 'The Garden of Eden' -- its since been pulled down
and a block of apartments built there. I'm
from Tullamore and I lived there at that time.
The problem with logging the show was that some reporter from NME or
Melody Maker in England was with U2 that week, and reported the gig as being in
"Tullyermeny' or somewhere like that, so that's where the confusion occurs.
As I said, there was only about 20 people there.
What we lacked in numbers we made up for in volume.
My lasting impression of the gig was the presence of Bono -- even then he
was the centre of attention. The
gig was recorded at the time on a tape deck.
Some copies were given to friends from time to time, and so BAD boots of
the gig have appeared. This is from
the original tape it's now been cleaned up, and it's on CD.
The quality is very good for an audience tape. I'm not 100% sure about the titles to the songs, but I've
given it my best shot.
I've called this CD 'Garden of Remembrance' - because it was in 'The Garden of
Eden' and 23 years is a long time to remember back..."
So, if anyone can clarify this, it would be great...I regret to say I was
not following U2 in 1980, I have yet to visit Ireland, so let us consider this
as fodder for evaluation.

incredibly great show, and just the performance of "Tomorrow" makes
this whole disc worthwhile! The sound is a bit boomy, the record level a touch
quiet, and some of the tracks have a waver and/or harshness from time to time,
but because this is a soundboard recording, I can live with it. There are better
shows out there, but this one is really worth having...

This could actually be a 1st gen copy from the master but for safety sake I
prefer to say 2nd gen. There is minimum hiss throughout. I knew the taper and
what he usually did was make a handful of 1st gen copies to speed up the process
of making copies available for his stall at Ingleston Market (for those of you
local to Edinburgh lol). This
really is a great show and reminds me what a great venue the Playhouse can be
before it went all arty farty and putting on stage productions such as Cats!

STEPHENS AT THE POINT starts with a few seconds into "God Part II."
Of some interest is the fact that Bono makes mention of the recent death
of Samuel Beckett (a native Dubliner who left the country and wrote, among other
things, 'Waiting For Godot' and 'Endgame,') before "Love Rescue Me."
During another track, he quickly recites some poetry, presumably by
Beckett, as well At 1:59 on track 2, Disc 1 (God Part II) a fair amount of distortion/feedback can be heard and lasts until
approximately 2:00/2:01. This
recording is not flawless Also, there seems the be a sound/source dropoff during
the beginning of Bullet the Blue Sky. This
is the original pressing on this label.

Notes from FLOM: Sound Quality: Excellent soundboard. Track 2 of Disc 1 suffers
from substantial distortion and occasional dropouts. During Out of Control at
2:37, it seems as though someone held down the fastfoward button, then released
it (the word "opinion"sounds like it's being hiccuped or `rapped').
Also during Love Rescue Me at 1:34 the sound is lost completely for a brief
instance (this error seems somewhat similar to what occurs at 2:37 during Out of
Control). At any rate, the
prevailing notion that the only error occurs during "Bullet the Blue
Sky"--and that the rest of the recording is flawless is incorrect.
I think these errors should be mentioned in the review since many fans
could be mislead to think that the people they are trading with made errors
while recording this show.
Comments: This set captures the
third night of The Point Depot shows in all its splendor. Most notable on this bootleg are the soundboard recordings of
"She's A Mystery To Me" (incorrectly labeled "Mystery
Girl"), "All I Want Is You", and "11 O'Clock Tick
Tock". The excellent version of "With Or Without You"
interspersed with "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is not to be missed
either! This is believed to be the
only widely-available bootleg of this concert and is highly recommended to
anyone who has the opportunity to obtain it. Tracks 6-8 performed with B.B.
King.

Elevation World Tour 2001. The exact source of this recording is unknown, but it
is most likely from a pro-shot video. There is a very small hiss that is audible
throughout this recording, and Bono's vocals seem to have a weird echo on them.
Also, there are (very small) fades in between every song. Don't pass this one
up!
I removed the fades, did some slight enhancements with soundforge and TC
tools-so it makes a much enjoyable listening.

After a decade of gadgets, the music really is at the heart of the performance
once again. The updated version of "Discotheque" featuring a slower
intro and a much less techno sound is played. The completely
Before "One" Bono asks some fans to pass an Irish flag up front. He
says "I used to feel ashamed of this flag. Because of some brave men and
women over the last fifteen years, I take great pride now in this flag."
It's very interesting to hear Bono mellow a bit as he grows older. Overall, Bono
isn't very talkative but that's understandable given that the band is probably
more concerned with getting the music down.

NOTE: This awesome recording was made by the same person who produced "Deep
In the Heart...of Texas", Corey Present. Again, this recording is crystal
clear with exceptionally sharp music and vocals. Again, there is virtually no
crowd noise.
As the title of this bootleg suggests, the Elevation tour truly is "old
school" U2. The band drops most of the bells and whistles that they had
played with during the past decade and allow the music to speak for itself. In
Dallas, as they did the previous night in Houston, the band trots out the
overhauled openings to "Discotheque" and "The Fly".
Apparently these songs will be played this way for the rest of the tour.
"Desire" is played acoustically, and before the song begins Bono tells
The Edge "Desire...slow...kind of slow." The song begins slowly and
never reaches "full speed", resulting in a cool version of a song that
is one of the fans' favorites.
Bono mentions that the first time the band played Dallas, they opened for a wet
T-shirt contest. "Larry will probably remember the name of the place",
he says. Bono also claims that this is the "Reapplying For the Job
Tour" before introducing the band. Immediately afterwards he provides some
insight into one of the band's earlier names, Feedback. Apparently, The Edge's
brother, Dik, who was then in the band, couldn't tune his guitar.

second night I changed the recording spot and the mics-I was a bit unhappy with
the result of the night before- it sounds like the usual between tip of the
heart and board recorded shows-clapping can be heard and some background noise
but not intrusive-everything is clean and clear.
So that's the story about the second night:
Recorded with a Sony D8 with ECM mics in the best accoustic spot (which
was virtually unknown to me before) in the Stadthalle, so it sounds like a board
recording, audience members were about 20-30m far away, so there is virtually no
intrusion or clapping whatsoever.
The result is much better than all American shows I heard before-clear sharp
stereo image and everything is well belanced.-much better than Charlotte (the
good one) or others.
The performance was also great and the band was hot -the day before was below
the average-so I was amazingly surprised.
Another comment written by Sean Spindler (thanks Sean):
"Very unique sound - unlike any other show I've heard from the Elevation
tour thus far. It has a definite soundboard quality about it, and doesn't really
sound like an audience recording. All ranges are well represented in the
recording. Only complaint I have would be that it sounds a bit brassy at times,
and the bass tends to sound just a touch flat on occasion. These certainly don't
distract from this otherwise stellar recording." I know that everyone likes
different sounds, and I know that many traders out there would find this to be
an EX+++ recording. Everyone has been raving about the two Texas shows from
4/2/2001 and 4/3/2001, but I don't like the sound. If you've listened to the
4/20/01 show - that's the sound quality that I like. Again, to each his own.
This is a very unique sounding recording. The music is mixed perfectly and
audience noise is present just the way it should be to create a "live

Notes: The show was much better
than the previous nights performance. Bono
was in good connecting with the audience much better, and Adam was walking about
again. The show was being taped for
an upcoming DVD. You will never see
me on it because I was standing directly under and next to the camera on the
floor in the GA. I was standing
pretty much by myself for most of the show until the encore. During the encore some guy with a safari hat and orange shirt
decided to stand really close to me, even though there was at least 10-15 feet
between us and anyone else. I guess
he never heard of personal space. Anyway,
he is the guy you can hear between the songs during the encore, at least he
stopped clapping and whistling for the songs, but it's not that bad.
The sound quality is very good.
I know I mentioned this in my last posting, but since I saw it on Ebay two days
after I made it available for download, I would like to stress this (I doubt he
has contributed anything, goes by the Ebay name 2004rickh): One other note once
this is distributed I can do nothing to prevent how it gets around.
I would ask that you do not sell it on Ebay.
But if you feel the need to do so why not do something good with the
money you are getting from it. Therefore

Why not make a differnce in someones life rather than pocketing the
money. Unlike Bono I am not asking

side behind the Sound board behind the celeb section. 10' behind Julia Roberts
(for those of you who care.).
I mounted the mics underneath my light weight sweater. One on ea shoulder aiming
a little upward at the speakers. I am 6'4 so my shoulders were taller than the
woman next to me. I put the dat in my fanypack on my side for easier access for
volume control.
I do not have a bass roll off, it Would be good to have one, venue was very
bassy!
Downloaded into WAV using EAC then ran diamond cut restoration tool softwear. I
EQ out the bass at 64 and 127. I boosted the level during Running and Orginal of
the spec, and manualy toned down a small section of clapping.
The beginning of pride is cut. By the time I got my ticket after waiting in line
for 6 hours the dat stores were closed. I only had 90 min tapes so I had to
change tapes before the encore break. When I tried to change the tape during the
human right speach the machine did not eject my tape or restart before Pride.
(Sorry) I am getting 90 meter tapes tomarrow that will last 3 hours for Boston.
Overall the show came out well, A- (still some bass but good) Enjoy!

Comments on recording: The OKMIIR mics are placed in your ears for recording.
Hence you probably get the best audio experience if you listen to this

Due to a rather poor sound in the "Arena Auf Schalke" (stadium - the
roof was closed) I would rate this a fair to good audience recording. Therefore
only occasional screaming.
General comments: Don't know what sucks more... screamers, out-of-tune singers
or permanently loud clapping :-)
But
eBay sellers suck the most for sure!
